5 Fun and Educational Field Trip Ideas for Students In Memphis

While the end of summer 2018 may seem like a drag to most students and parents alike, at the same time, it doesn’t have to be. Other than the fact that Halloween is just around the corner, the idea of having students going back to school should be seen as an opportunity for educators especially to get to know and bond with their students. And what better way for your students to have fun and learn than to take them out on a field trip(or two)? 

Without further ado, here are some fun and educational places for you and your students to visit inside of Memphis: 

1. Escapology Escape Room

Currently, the only escape room in Memphis, TN that offers five interactive games based off of real-life events, this room is an especially great place for students to get hands-on experience in learning how to solve problems and (hopefully) give them an incentive to pass their next history test. 

For the folks who love classic mystery novels, we highly recommend playing Budapest Express. While it may be a challenge, it is still a load of fun. Plus, it’s the perfect excuse for you and your students to dress up and throw a pre-Halloween party. 

2. Memphis Botanic Gardens

A fan favorite amongst locals alike, the Memphis Botanic Gardens is an excellent place for anyone who is interested in either the great outdoors or the arts themselves. What makes this garden especially famous is that once or twice a year, a Japanese festival will be held there. 

Whether you’re interested in helping students study the ancient art of Japanese tea ceremony or teaching them how to save the environment, there is always a little something in the garden for everyone. 

3. Stax Museum of American Soul Music 

Perfect for historians, musicians, technology lovers, and everyone else in between, this museum is a great starter for teachers especially to introduce their students to the world of music, technology, and Memphis history. 

Compared to other museums in Memphis, this one offers an interactive dance floor. This way, visitors can get their groove on while learning more about the history of music in Memphis. 

4. The AutoZone Dome at the Sharpe Planetarium

With better sound, lighting, and many other fantastical features, the Sharpe Planetarium, now home to the AutoZone Dome, is once again back in business to whisk students away to galaxies far, far, away and to boldly go where no one has ever gone before!

This place is definitely a must for those who enjoy learning about Astronomy and Technology. 

5. Memphis Brooks Museum of Art 

While it’s not exactly the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art is nevertheless a great place to take your students to learn more about the world of art. From their temporary exhibits to their more interactive ones, the museum offers a nice array of arts and activities for students to enjoy. 

At one point, the museum hosted a (temporary) video game art exhibit, which was a hit amongst children and adults alike.
